New labels for Ahab’s Obsession included the logo and brand coloring on a backdrop of an ocean wave. Labels include all information required for federal and state laws related to the sale of alcohol.
6 Pack Package Design
Packaging continued with the whaling theme, incorporating a photograph of a whale in an ocean setting. Labels at the bottles’ tops allow the logo to peak through, adding to brand recognization and cohesion of the design.
Additional 3D Designed Mockups
Sometimes it can be difficult to imagine what your product might look like in a real setting. Here two bottles of Ahab’s Obsession rest on a bar top that includes specialty coasters coordinating with the package design. All items on the bar top were hand modeled in Maya with a background photo from a local bar to provide context.

Ahab’s Obsession is a new craft beer company located in Mystic Connecticut. They asked CJ Design for a logo and packaging for their product before marketing to new retail sites.
The young company wanted the finished design to:
Celebrate their local community
Pay homage to Mystic’s history (whaling industry)
Incorporate vintage touches to suggest longevity and quality of product
Catch customers’ attention in a crowded market

The new logo mark for Ahab’s Obsession incorporated the hand-drawn illustration of a whaling ship (complete with whale tail) with an older serif typeface and more retro coloring to meet the company’s specifications. Included was a wave indicating the Mystic location of their headquarters to celebrate their location, as well as their tagline “Find Your Passion,” a nod to the commitment of Moby-Dick’s main character to his white whale.
